 Although my mother and father were antique dealers, and I grew up literally in auction houses as a child- Kathy Kays is truly my mentor in this business.  We met under circumstances, that would have thrown anyone else right off their horse. Not her. She chose to get right back on, and with me, a complete stranger . . . as her business partner. Her husband Jeff, I'm certain, was more then weary. I had talked to Kathy way back then about my long and short term ideas for Belvidere and antiques and so . . .  We owned a shared business for four years- in Belvidere, and try as we might it just didn't work. Not between us- to everyone's amazement, but do to the simple fact that we could not get it to be as successful as it needed to be to justify continuing. This happens alot, and I am beyond thankful that we realized it when when we did. When Kathy came to discuss signing up for space at "Water Street Antiques" I felt it was a sign that everything was going to be fine- a confirmation in my heart if you will.  To have person who has taught so much, come and say I want to be a part of this with you, to remember thoughts from years ago and say "You said this is how you saw could be it and now your doing it! I'm so proud of you". Well . . . Since then, my hands have stopped shaking, and I have to tell you- I slept harder that night, then I have in a really, really long time. Thank you Kathy. |
